The coast of Etretat, in the Normandy region of France, is lined with cliffs of white limestone. The coast, bathed in gentle light and with a serene, poetic landscape, has fascinated artists such as Monet.
This original calf leather is inspired by the symphony played by nature.

The greatest feature of this product is the coloring with various shades, which was created over a period of one and a half years through repeated adjustments and prototyping. Even the nearly monochromatic colors such as "Limestone" and "Midnight" have subtle nuances in their shades, based on the motif of Etretat's deep colors.

Heading to France in search of the best original leather

Tannerie Degermann, from whom we custom-ordered our original leather, is located in BARR, a town surrounded by vineyards, 35 km south of Strasbourg in the Alsace region of France.

The reason we asked Degyaman to produce our original leather is because they are the oldest and best tanner in France and have a deep knowledge of tradition and quality.

After many exchanges of ideas with the French company Degjaman, Etretat was finally completed.

Due to changing times, Degyaman has decided to merge with the nearby Haas company (also founded in the 19th century). After our leather production, the historic Degyaman factory will close and be renovated into a museum.

The last of the Degjamans' history, Etretat, is the culmination of tradition, passion, and technology. Their craftsmanship and Etretat production will be inherited by Haas and will aim for even greater heights.

Long-lasting and beautiful

Generally, most wallet troubles are caused by metal parts or stitching. However, Hitoe® Fold does not use any metal parts and has only four stitches. In addition, the corners, which are prone to damage, are made of overlapping outer and inner leather to increase durability. The seam allowance is extremely small, and the design is such that it is difficult for the wallet to lose its shape even when it is in a trouser pocket.

About the leather used

Origins

Etretat, in Normandy, France, is a coastline of white limestone cliffs. The gentle light and poetic scenery of the coast has attracted artists such as Monet. This calf leather is inspired by the symphony of nature.

Tanning and Manufacturing

The raw hides of fine French bull calfs are used. After chrome-tanning, it is dyed with aniline dyes and finished with two colors of pigment to create a deep look. It is scratch and stain resistant, water repellent, and hardly ages, so you can keep the original look for a long time.

Maintenance

Although the leather is scratch, stain, and water resistant, please wipe it off immediately when it gets wet, and periodically remove dust from the surface with a soft cloth.

Q. Are there any tips for opening and closing it?

If you are right-handed, you can use your left hand to bend the boundary between the coin pocket and the card pocket into an "U" shape, which will release the inner hook and allow the wallet to open smoothly.

To close it, lightly press the top with your right hand while bending it into an "U" shape with your left hand, and the inner hook will naturally catch on the card.

The trick is to not touch the inner hook when opening or closing it.

Q. It becomes distorted when closed.

This is caused by misusing the inner hook on the outside of the wallet. Please only hang it on the cards you want to store.

Q. Should I choose right-handed or left-handed?

If you use your right hand to insert and remove cards and coins, please select "right-handed"; if you use your left hand, please select "left-handed". All photos and videos used in the product description are for right-handed use, and the slot for removing bills and cards is on the right side.

Q. The card pockets are too cramped

The design is tight so that the leather does not stretch more than necessary, so it may feel tight when you first start using it while the leather is still stiff. Don't worry, it will become more comfortable as you use it.

Also, if the card is difficult to insert all the way in, pressing the leather at the back of the card pocket (to the left of the card for right-handed users) firmly will help the card to fit in more easily.

Please note that storing cards with uneven surfaces or items other than credit card size (such as point cards or medical cards) can make the bag feel cramped.

HITOE FOLD side — If it feels too tight, try loosening the leather at the back of the card pocket (left side for right-handed users) to make it more comfortable.

Q: Will the cards fall out?

When you close the wallet by hanging the inner hook, it won't fall out.

Even when open, the leather on the top edge of the cards will support them if the wallet is held vertically. Please note that cards are more likely to fall out if the wallet is placed horizontally.

Q. Will the coins spill?

The coin pocket has a lid to prevent spills. As the leather becomes more flexible with use and the bend in the lid settles, it will become even less likely to spill.

The pocket is shallow to allow for quick removal of coins, and the size of the pocket allows the top of a 500 yen coin to be slightly visible, but it is hidden when the lid is closed.

If you open the wallet horizontally, coins may spill out. Please use it vertically.

Q. I'm bothered by the sound of coins.

If you store your coins with the coin pocket facing upright, you can prevent the coins from making noise. Also, the coins will automatically align themselves more easily, so please try it.

Q. Won't I open it upside down and spill the coins?

Don't worry, if you turn the wallet inside out, it won't bend into a "U" shape and won't open. You can also use this as a reference for the position of the stitching and how the cards look.

The side without the stitching on the right side is the front, as the bills are taken out from the right.
The side where the cards are most visible is the right side, as the cards are taken out from the right.

Q. Can the magnetic stripes of cards be stacked?

Modern magnetic stripes are highly resistant to magnetism, so there is no problem even if they are stacked. Also, IC chips are not affected by magnetism.

However, for bank cards with no expiration date, the magnetic stripe may be weakened, so we recommend stacking the cards with the magnetic stripes alternating up and down.

This is the best wallet for people who mainly use electronic payments!

After more than three years of mainly using electronic payments and app point cards and going through several thin or small wallets, I finally arrived at my goal.
I thought a fragment case would be okay, so I tried using one made of French calf leather with a coin purse from a well-known domestic manufacturer, but I still couldn't help but feel bothered by the way it left tight creases on the bills.
This product solved all my problems.
I've finally found a wallet that meets all of my requirements: I want to be able to fit 4-5 cards, 888 or 999 yen coins, but the storage space isn't too cramped, I don't want to fold bills, it has a sleek silhouette that isn't too thick, and ideally it's made of a material that requires minimal maintenance and can be used without worrying about scratches.
Usability?
It's the best! I choose leather products made by Japanese craftsmen as much as possible, and I think the texture and finish are wonderful. I can't really comment on durability until I've used it for a while, but when it comes time to replace it, I'll choose this series.

Simply beautiful

I was originally using a thin wallet from another company, but I started to want to put coins in it. However, I don't like the rattle of metal, so after searching, I found this wallet. This is my third model, having replaced ①Hitoe ress, ②Hitoe Aria, and ③Etretat.
Ress was thin and great, but I needed to carry five cards, so I switched to Aria.
I've been using it with Aria and have had no complaints, and the leather feels great with age, but there is one thing that has been bothering me - it's prone to scratches.
Then, Etretat, which is scratch-resistant, came out, so I bought it. <br>Needless to say, it's the best.
The leather looks hard in the picture, but it's actually very soft and comfortable to wear.
The price is higher than Aria and Ress, but I think it's worth it.

Actual usage experience <br>It can hold up to six cards, but if you put in six it will be too tight, so five will give you plenty of room and be stress-free.
By the way, it has a mysterious structure that makes it unlikely for even one piece to fall off. <br>The wallet can hold 15 times the published value of 10,000-yen bills, so you can even put in 30 10,000-yen bills without them losing their shape.
It can hold up to 20 coins, but it looks and feels better if you keep it to 10 or less.
Both the ress and Aria were put in my back pocket and used vigorously without any fraying or cracking of the edges, so I think they are quite durable.

For those who want to enjoy aging, try ress and Aria.
If you want to use it without worrying about scratches, try Etretat.
