The Good Design Award is a design award sponsored by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
The Compasso d'Oro was established in 1954, the iF Design Award in 1953, and the Red Dot Design Award in 1955, and the Good Design Award, established in 1950, has the longest history of any design award in the world and is recognized as a globally authoritative design award.

The Good Design Award was established by Edgar Kaufman Jr. of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York) together with pioneers of modern design such as Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, who created numerous furniture masterpieces, Russell Wright, a leading American industrial designer, and Eero Saarinen, a renowned architect. The awards were established in conjunction with
The awards are judged by a jury of experts on innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, architecture, concept, function, and aesthetics.
This year's awards received a record number of entries from more than 55 countries.
The award is not related to the Good Design Award in Japan, and is also called the "Chicago Good Design Award" in Japan. In terms of prestige, the Chicago Good Design Award is one of the most valuable awards in the world, along with the red dot design award and the iF design award.
Hitoe® Fold Less has won four other prestigious design awards including the German Design Award and DFA, and the Hitoe® Fold series has won a total of 17 awards.
